Hey! Where Did Everyone Go?

Updated: Jul 17, 2021

My gal-pal, Diane, dragged out a high school year book the last time I visited. Talk about a walk down Memory Lane!

First, here’s a shoutout to good, old Lake View High. Go Wildcats!

  • Where did you go to high school?

  • What's your best memory?

At Lake View, I adored Mr. Walsh, my English and Public Speaking teacher. He really pushed you! Did you all see him in the movie, The Untouchables with Kevin Costner and Sean Connery?

Anyway, I'm getting off track. Diane and I were looking at pictures of our very best friends from back in the day and were a little saddened at how we’ve lost touch with them. One of my best high school girlfriends was Linda Gleason. I thought we’d be best buds forever but after graduation, never saw her again.

The best part of our reminiscing was reading the messages friends wrote in the year book. “Diane, you’re the cutest girl in school. Stay cool!” Or the ever-popular, "2-sweet 2-be 4-gotten".

I absolutely cringed at seeing all the circles drawn around the heads of every boy we were ever in love with ---- and there were many! Buddy, Silvio, John, Glen, Dennis, Mike, Gary, Tony, Dino, Buzzy, Tom, and on and on and on the list went.

For a minute, I was in Phi Epsilon with Linda Gleason. Diane was in Iota Chi. Then came the Angelettes! Picture a combination of the Pink Ladies from Grease with Stockard Channing and Olivia Newton John and Natalie Wood (Vic) and Rita Moreno from West Side Story.

The Angelettes was the greatest girls club of all time ---- or so we thought. Really, the extent of our club activities was organizing Friday night dances at Viking Hall. There was Karen aka Chickie, Vicki, Marilyn aka Lips, Camilla, Donna aka Big Red, Kathy, Debbi, Diane aka Squeeky, Chris aka Mama, Rosie, Loretta, Lorraine, me aka Bubbles -- and so many others that I just can't remember right now. I suppose I can reveal the story behind the Bubbles nickname now. It wasn't because of my effervescent personality. One day we cut school and Karen pierced my ears which then swelled up like a couple of puffer fish. Not sure what she did to me but it took days for my 'bubbly-bulbous' earlobes to return to normal!

Miss so many of you!

Where did you go?
