Chicago's Senior Centers are Super Centers!

Updated: Jul 12, 2021

Senior Services is a wide-reaching, comprehensive department within Chicago’s Family and Support Services offering a multitude of programs and resources.

For seniors in Chicago, a great place to get more information and guidance about all programs offered by Family and Support Services starts at your local Satellite Senior Center.

On the Windy City Seniors Resources page, you will find a list of all 15 satellite senior centers and the six regional centers located throughout Chicago -- hours and phone numbers are provided. (see map.)

These centers have an incredible variety of programs that will entertain, enlighten and educate seniors. These are great programs designed to help seniors maintain their independence and offer terrific opportunities to socialize, learn new skills and most importantly, have fun!

You’ll find information on assisted living programs, legal assistance, caregiving assistance, the Circuit Breaker program, home-delivered meals, well-being checks and so much more -- and most programs are free of charge. Ask about how to get a “Benefits Checkup” to see what services, such as energy assistance, housing assistance, financial assistance, transportation, among others, that you may be eligible to receive.

Currently, Senior Centers are implementing a soft re-opening. In this phase, there is indoor dining for a limited number of diners at lunchtime. Call in advance to see if reservations are required. Pickup boxed lunches remain available for takeout. Menu items vary by location and monthly menus are available on our site and at each center.

A nominal donation is requested.

This first phase of re-opening has limitations on other various activities. Some centers are beginning to offer computer classes again. Call for information in advance.

Meet new friends at your local senior center!

Once fully operational again, a visit to your local senior center should be at the top of your list of things to-do. There are exercise classes, trips, card games, meditation classes, yoga, dancing, crafts, sing-alongs, weight-training, Zumba, and so, so much more!

You'll be so glad you went! Hope to see you there!
