Feed your mind. Stretch your legs. Discover a new chapter—literally!

📖

Summer is the perfect time to reconnect with one of life’s greatest pleasures: reading.

📖

Whether you’re revisiting an old favorite or diving into a best-seller everyone’s talking about, books can refresh our minds and inspire meaningful movement.

And here’s the good news—you don’t need a bookshelf or a trip to the bookstore. The @ChiPubLib, your local library offers free eBooks and audiobooks that you can borrow with just a few taps on your phone, tablet, or computer. Don't hesitate to ask for help! Apps like Libby or Hoopla are simple to use and open up a world of titles—from gripping mysteries to heartfelt memoirs. Click here for locations and hours.

Looking for a little fresh air? Try reading outside at one of Chicago's beautiful parks! @ChicagoParkDistrict. Bring a chair or picnic blanket and a good book to Portage Park or your favorite green spot. A shady tree, a light breeze, and a juicy novel make for a perfect afternoon.

Prefer to keep your hands free while you walk? Audiobooks are a wonderful way to get your steps in while getting lost in a great story. Plug in your headphones and let a classic or new release accompany your daily walk.

📚 Staff Pick: The Thursday Murder Club by @RichardOsman – A charming and clever mystery featuring seniors solving crimes from their retirement village. Witty, heartwarming, and full of surprises.

Looking Ahead: We’re considering launching a Windy City Seniors Book Club this fall—part in-person, part digital. You’ll get the chance to connect with others, share insights, and enjoy great conversation over good books. Let us know if you’re interested!

This week, treat your brain and body to something they’ll both enjoy. Whether it’s a quiet bench or a walking trail, take a book along for the ride.
